There once was a window...

.. a window with an interesting latch. One  pulled the window's handle out, then twisted it to unlock the top and bottom of the latch before opening the window. This latch was simple, elegant, and only slightly difficult to figure out. In short, the latch was perfect. The window was mullioned, which also made it perfect in the eye of the beholder who particularly approved of mullioned windows. The final mark of perfection was that the window opened into the room on the second floor that it admitted light into. That direction, probably not the best for fire escape, displayed the everyday practicality of the designer of the window. The window was made to be cleaned, not to admit escape during an unforeseen disaster. Whoever designed it believed in the regular order or a calm life.
